A Movie, a Swarm, a Tree and a Storm

Saw The Hunger Games yesterday. Good movie. They kept pretty faithful to the book. There's a scene in the movie that I tried so hard not to cry watching (I cried when I read it in the book), but I couldn't hold back my tears. I cried so hard. :-( I hope they make Catching Fire and Mockingjay. The last scene in The Hunger Games makes me believe they will. And after all the money they're making off of this one, I'd be really surprised if they didn't.

After going to the store and then coming home, I had to deal with a very unexpected and creepy problem - a huge swarm of ants in and all over the mailbox. Ick. I sprayed the whole thing down, top to bottom, inside and out. I have no idea why they were in there.

I then had Sean cut the grass and after he was done, I hosed off the mailbox to get the poison out of it. I don't want anyone sticking their hands in there if it's covered with poison.

Charlie is in Houston this week. He left ridiculously early (3:30 am) yesterday morning because he had to go to the shop before going to the airport to catch an early flight (6 something am). If he had been here I would've had him handle the ant situation. :-/

Redbud in our front yard.

Double rainbow. Taken Saturday evening after a strong thunder storm (heavy rain, wind, hail, crazy lightning). It was still drizzling a bit and lightning was still streaking through the sky when I took this.

Shopping, Historic Parks, Ancestry

This past weekend was an enjoyable one. Did some shopping, went to Tannenbaum Historic Park and Guilford Courthouse National Military Park and of course church on Sunday.

I also got two new straw purses at Stein Mart for a good price. I got the dresses at JC Penney. Because I'm short, both dresses are longer on me than on the models in the pictures. I wore the blue floral dress on Sunday with a white shrug/top over it and natural/cork heels. I saw another dress at Ann Taylor Loft that I'd love to have. Hopefully they'll still have my size when I'm able to buy it.

There were displays and demonstrations - blacksmith, kitchen w/real food, medical instruments, etc.

There had been a battle reenactment before we arrived. If we had known about it beforehand we would've gone earlier to see it.

I got our taxes done about a week and a half ago. We're not getting back as much as we have in the past, but it'll be enough to pay off the washer and dryer we got a few months ago and go on vacation.

Homeschooling is still our plan beginning next school year. I talked with a friend about it (my best friend who moved to Florida last year) and told her that I'm not one to jump into anything. I have to think and plan first. Get it all worked out in my head before I make it a reality. Plus, I think it'd be easier to let them finish this school year in their current schools rather than remove them with just a couple months left.

Late last month, I paid for a six-month membership at ancestry.com. Since then I've spent a lot of time researching the family tree. It's amazing the things I've discovered. In researching Charlie's side, I discovered that one of his ancestors, who was an important man in Jamestown and Yorktown and also George Washington's grandfather and an ancestor of Robert E. Lee, helped save the people who were being massacred by Indians in 1622. Including some of my ancestors. His ancestor came to the rescue of my ancestors. Wow. Pretty cool.

I've discovered many other interesting ancestors (King Henry III, King Edward I [who ordered the capture, torture and execution of William Wallace, aka Braveheart], and others) and stories. I encourage anyone reading this to research their family tree. You never know who or what you will find.
