Christmas Day

We had a really nice Christmas. After getting up, eating a late breakfast, taking a shower, loading the dishwasher, and waking Kelly up, Sean, Ashley, and my mom came over to open gifts.

Mom didn't stay for supper (she eats once a day, much earlier than we eat), but I made a pretty good supper for my family - fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, black eyed peas, corn, and crescent rolls. (Salt and pepper on Kelly's chicken, Goya adobo on mine, and cajun on everyone else's. I also dipped mine in honey.) Dessert was chocolate chip cookies I made the night before, pecan pie, and chocolate silk pie, but we were too full from supper to eat any of it. lol

This year's gifts:

Charlie: I gave him a PS4 golf game he wanted. He actually wanted something this year. lol Most years I just get him whatever I can find or think of. Sean is going to pay for them to play golf when they get the chance and the weather is nice.

Mom gave all of us money. I don't remember what she said Sean and Ashley got her. I wanted to get her a nice purple cardigan for church or a nice purple purse for church (her favorite color is purple), but I couldn't find either anywhere I went. So I got her a Christmas throw blanket with a couple cardinals on it. I plan to keep looking for a cardigan or purse for her.

Sean: We got him two T-shirts - Band of Brothers (I found it on Redbubble) and Superman (black shirt with black/dark gray Superman S symbol). I wanted to also get him a Superman (or whatever) hoodie, but couldn't find one. Which suprised me. I still want to get him a third thing since I got Ashley three things.

Ashley: I got her a perfume Sean said she wanted (can't remember the name of it) and two pink throw blankets. She said she wanted a pink blanket, but I didn't ask her what shade of pink she wanted, so I got her a bright pink and a soft/blush/rose pink.

Kelly: I don't remember what Sean and Ashley got her. Charlie and I got her an Ahsoka hoodie (I found it at Game Stop while looking for a hoodie for Sean), two Batman video games, a mushroom mug from World Market (white mug with a lid/top/cover that is red with white spots), and an iridescent colored butterfly knife. We got her everything she asked for, but the hoodie was a surprise - she didn't even know it existed. Ahsoka is her favorite Star Wars character. She loves the hoodie.

Me: Sean and Ashley got me a Funko Pop of Loki on the throne (God Loki) from season 2 of the Loki series and a Loki keychain. Charlie got me a stereo for my car (what I asked for), speakers for my car (what I asked for for my birthday, so I don't know what I want for my birthday now lol), a back-up camera for my car because I mentioned needing one once lol, and a Loki action figure, which I was not expecting.

After eating, Sean, Kelly, and Charlie played a board game while Ashley and I sat in the living room and talked. Sean and Ashley left around 8 or 9 o'clock because they had to work the next day. Charlie was off, but will be going back to work today. Charlie took the whole week leading up to Christmas off. He and his guys got the day after Christmas off since Christmas Eve was on Sunday.

I would add pictures to this post, but I didn't take any pictures on Christmas Day this year.

Anniversary, Christmas, and Shopping

Charlie and I celebrated our 29th wedding anniversary on December 17th. I wasn't feeling well (AF), so we didn't go anywhere. We exchanged cards and Charlie gave me flowers and a laptop.

We don't usually give each other gifts. Our anniversary is a week before Christmas, so we usually just do cards and dinner out and he gives me flowers. I had been wanting a laptop for about a year or two now so I could sometimes use a computer (bigger than my phone screen) while sitting on the couch in the living room with him while he watches TV or messes with his phone. Then my computer started having problems. I don't recall bringing it up in the past couple months, but when he brought home a laptop from work over a week ago and let me use it, he remembered that I've been wanting one.

He was going to give me the laptop for Christmas, but when he asked me what I wanted and I said, "A new stereo for my car" (the aux cord outlet doesn't work anymore and so I can't listen to my iPod in the car), he decided to give me the stereo for Christmas and the laptop for our anniversary. The stereo isn't a surprise, but the laptop was.

I told him I'd like new speakers for my birthday in February (the speaker in the front passenger door quits working sometimes; the system is as old as the car - 2007), but he got me those for Christmas as well. I wasn't supposed to know that, but I looked in the box that was delivered and saw them. lol

Anyway, yeah. Twenty-nine years. Almost thirty. Our thirtieth first date anniversary (we don't actually celebrate that lol, but I mention it some years when it comes around) is April 29th. So we have been together nearly 30 years. (We got engaged on May 6th.) Which is crazy because I don't feel like I should be 30 years old, let alone married for nearly 30 years. lol And we'll be grandparents in April! That's even crazier to me! lol

We went out to eat (Cugino Forno) a couple days before our anniversary. We weren't looking at that as an anniversary date, so unofficial anniversary date. lol

--------------------

Christmas is almost here and I'm almost ready for it. lol Charlie finally got the tree out of the attic for me Monday night and Kelly helped me decorate it - a week before Christmas! lol But I normally leave it up until the first or second week of January, so we have some time to enjoy it. I've also bought most of the Christmas presents, including one for our mail carrier. I just have to find something for my mom (I've checked several places, but haven't found anything I think she might like) and get one more gift for Sean. I was going to get him and Ashley two each, but then I got her three, so I have to get one more for Sean.

For Christmas dinner, I'm making fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, black eyed peas, probably corn, and crescent rolls. Pies will be pecan and chocolate silk. And I'm going to make chocolate chip cookies because Sean wants them. I made fried chicken last year and I'm making it again this year because Sean loves my fried chicken.

My most recent purchase (December 8th):

Boden dress. Purchased from someone on eBay. Originally around $130, I paid $38.20 after shipping and tax.

Yes, I love shirt dresses. lol Especially Boden shirt dresses.

--------------------

I forgot to mention in the entry about the storm and my car that the windshield was replaced on December 8th. I don't know how much longer it's going to be before my car is repainted and looks nice again.

Photos of Storm Damage

 Pictures of our yard and car after a storm hit us on August 15th.

My car is under that tree.

This was taken a little over a month ago. It looks a little worse now. lol

Two Trips to the Mountains

These are some of the photos I took with my cell phone of our two mountain trips in October. The ones on my camera turned out quite a bit better. It was actually very colorful up there and you can see that in the photos on my camera. If I'm able to get them onto Charlie's laptop, I'll add some of them to my blog.

Wednesday, October 18th.

Craggy Gardens. 10-18-23. Kelly and I had quite the hike to get to this view. Charlie waited in the car with Milo. Mostly because he didn't know we had found a trail. lol But it was pretty muddy and that wouldn't have been good with Milo. And as he gets older, he can't handle long walks anymore. Let alone a hike that was steep in places. The views from the top were gorgeous!

Crabtree Falls. Monday, October 23rd. The hike down wasn't too bad, but I thought the hike back up was going to kill me. lol

Six Months of Clothing Purchases

I saved some pictures to Charlie's laptop to add to my blog. This isn't everything I bought since May. This is all but one of the dresses and one of the skirts. There were a few more skirts, a few long-sleeved T-shirts, several short-sleeved T-shirts, and a pair of yellow Blowfish tennis shoes.

Boden dress. Purchased from someone on eBay. (This is their photo.) Originally $130, I paid $53.36 after tax. Shipping was free. I love this dress.

J. Crew dress. Purchased from someone on Poshmark. Originally about $90. I paid $35.20 after shipping and tax. I bought it last month, so it's been too chilly to wear it.

J. Crew Factory dress. Purchased from someone on Poshmark. Originally $64, I paid $21.32 after shipping and tax.

Eliza J dress. Purchased from someone on Poshmark. Originally $148, I paid $75.74 after shipping and tax.

Boden skirt. Purchased from someone on Poshmark. (This is their photo.) Originally $90, I paid $33.04 after shipping and tax.

Boden dress. Purchased from someone on Poshmark. I don't know the original price (definitely over $100). I paid $61.89 after shipping and tax. Another dress I love.

Merona dress. (A Target brand.) Purchased from someone on Poshmark. (This is their photo.) I paid $25.59 after shipping and tax. Another favorite.

Boden dress. Purchased from someone on Poshmark. I don't know the original price. (Over $100.) I paid $49.05 after shipping and tax.

Steve Madden coat. Purchased from someone on Poshmark. Originally $150, I paid $72.56 after shipping and tax. It's not warm enough for winter, but should be fine on days in the 50s.

I'll upload pictures from our mountain trips in another post.

Long Overdue Post

On June 19th, my computer started messing up - turning off and on, and off and on, and off and on, etc. I haven't been able to use it since then. I've put off taking it to get repaired because I'm afraid it might cost a lot and we've had some other expenses to take care of. (Of course, it could also not cost as much as I'm afraid it will cost.) Anyway, it's been sitting in my office (which has become more of a storage room than anything) since then. I've been afraid that my blog would get deleted (unlikely, since my first blogspot blog still exists) and since Charlie brought a laptop home from work, he's letting me use it to check and update my blog.

A lot has happened since June. I've tried to keep notes on my phone. I'm going to try to keep this as short as I can, but that could be difficult.

--------------------

Sean had training with FedEx from July 31st to August 4th, started working for them August 7th (deliveries), and was fired the next day because he said the job was hard and wasn't sure he could handle it. (Long story there involving 2-3 different people training him, each with their own method.) A couple weeks after that, he was diagnosed with acute bronchitis, mild intermittent asthma, and something else. He had started getting sick a few days before getting fired. He thinks that may have made the job harder because he was feeling weak and coughing.

Sean began searching for a new job soon after getting fired. He applied many places. It was frustrating when jobs that said "little to no experience necessary" or said they would train would then tell him that he didn't have enough experience. :-/ Ashley works, but doesn't make enough to cover everything. My mom gave Sean money every week (I didn't know this for awhile; I didn't know they were struggling that much because they didn't say anything to us) to help with food, gas, tires, etc.

Finally, at the end of October, he was hired by Napa to work in parts. (A warehouse or distribution center.) He started on October 30th. He should be getting health insurance through his job and a raise by the end of January. He seems to like his job so far.

--------------------

On August 4th, Sean and Ashley told us that they're having a baby. Due April 12th - 3 days after Sean's birthday. They've since found out it's a girl.

Still feels weird that I'm going to be a grandma. I don't feel like a grandma. lol

---------------------

Sometime in July, my brother married Shari. She's originally from Canada and has two kids from a previous relationship. A girl (Sofia) and a boy (Remi). Del and Shari are trying to get partial or full custody of Del's son Drake from his previous marriage. A long story I don't want to get into, but I'll just say that his ex is being difficult. Apparently, even her lawyer is frustrated by her tantrums/defiance. There's a court date in January, I think, and they want me and Mom to be there.

--------------------

On August 15th, a bad storm hit our area. I was outside with Milo waiting for him to potty when I saw dark, angry-looking clouds coming our way. I let Milo in and then went back outside to record it, not realizing how bad it would get. After a few minutes, the wind picked up and got so bad that I quickly went inside and closed the door. The wind had already blown the bird feeder off one of our trees and the look and sound of the wind was so scary I thought a tornado was about to hit.

Kelly looked out the window and saw that both of our trees had cracked in half and fallen. One of the trees fell on my car. I handed Milo to her and told her to get in the bathtub. I ran around for a few seconds trying to find Loki, but I couldn't find him and ran into the bathroom and closed the door. I was shaking so bad and terrified that the roof was going to get blown off.

When the wind finally stopped, I went outside and recorded the damage. I was crying, not so much from the damage to my car, but I think from the panic and fear I had felt. I was afraid my car had been completely smashed in, but it wasn't. The windshield was busted, a small dent on top of the car, a couple dents on the front above the driver side tire, back wiper broke off, scratches all over the top and sides. (Of course, I couldn't see all of this until the tree had been removed.)

After I finished recording, I called Charlie and told him what happened. He came home with a chainsaw and he and a few of our neighbors got to work. We got it the worst in our neighborhood. About 4 or 5 of the homes on our street (all in a row with our house) lost a tree. No one's home or car was damaged.

Pleasant Garden, and a few places between our neighborhood and Pleasant Garden, had quite a bit of damage as well. The meteorologists said that it was a down burst with some rotation and the wind speed of an F-1 or F-2 (can't remember which) tornado. It was so scary!

Our trees have been completely cut down, with just stumps remaining. Charlie said he's going to get rid of them, but he hasn't yet. Our yard looks so weird with no trees.

--------------------

My friend Phyllis (called "Sis") died on September 3rd. We first became friends online in March 1999. She was quite a bit older than me (early to mid 70s) and had had a stroke. While in the hospital, she had a heart attack and they couldn't save her. I'm glad I was able to visit her in the hospital before she passed. I cried quite a bit when she passed. Especially for her husband Steve.

Sis and Steve were originally from Minnesota and moved here in the summer of 2020. (After having lived in NY and VA.) When Steve retired, they decided to move here after visiting and loving the location and our church. Steve didn't stay fully retired for long though. He teaches music at NC A&T and is also in a local orchestra.

I sometimes forget that she's gone and then I remember and feel sad. I miss seeing her at church and sometimes feel sad seeing Steve there without her.

--------------------

Kelly's friend Rene (aka, my "second daughter") and her husband had a baby on September 18th, 19th, or 20th. (Can't remember which. lol) A boy they named Anthony. He is so freaking cute!

--------------------

On October 3rd, Charlie brought my car to a repair shop. (Took long enough for the insurance!) Our insurance company decided it was totaled and we picked the car back up on October 6th. They sent us a check (we used part of it to pay off a couple doctor bills) and Charlie is slowly fixing the car himself. The windshield and back wiper have been replaced and Charlie is in the process of getting rid of dents and scratches and preparing it for paint. Not sure how much longer it's going to be. My car looks rough! lol Sanded, stuff put on it where it's been sanded, many of the pieces that can't be painted have been removed.

--------------------

Kelly went to her first therapy appointment on October 4th. She wasn't able to make her second one in November and the next available appointment wasn't until January 4th. So, she'll go back on that date. Hopefully, they can figure out what's going on with her.

--------------------

Charlie, Kelly, and I (and Milo) went to the mountains on October 18th. The color was gorgeous! We went a different route this time instead of our usual. Instead of 40-W to 52-N to Fancy Gap to the Parkway and then head south to Boone, we took 40-W to near Mt. Mitchell, went to Mt. Mitchell, then got on the Parkway. We were going to take the Parkway to almost the Linn Cove Viaduct and then take a different road to Boone, but somehow we got turned around and ended up heading back south and didn't realize until we were near Asheville. lol

So Kelly and I went back to the mountains on October 23rd. We got on the Parkway near Mt. Mitchell and I made sure we went north this time. lol We went to overlooks we had never been to before and loved it. We got off before the Linn Cove Viaduct, went into Blowing Rock, went to Shoppes on the Parkway to get cherry cordials at Kilwin's, drove into Boone to eat supper at Dan'l Boone Inn Restaurant (the mashed potatoes were delicious!), and then came home.

Sean and Ashley went to the mountains on October 28th.

--------------------

I think that's all of the main things that have happened. There have been clothing purchases since May, but it may be easier to add pictures from my computer. If I even bother. I'd also like to post pictures of our mountain trip, storm damage, and maybe ultrasound of Sean and Ashley's baby.

Car Trouble, Easter, A/C Quit, One Thing After Another

I haven't felt like writing in awhile, so I'm a little behind. I'll try to keep this entry from being too long.

On March 18th (I think that was a Saturday), Charlie noticed my car making a squeaking/chirping sound. I'd actually heard it now and then for months, but Charlie couldn't hear it because he's a little deaf and he said he couldn't fix it if he couldn't hear it because he wouldn't know what to check. Well, finally he could hear it. He started with the cheapest possibility (I don't remember what that was) and finally on Easter Sunday (April 9th), he got it fixed. He had changed a few parts by then (the last one being the power steering pump) and did something with a belt and the squeaking/chirping finally stopped.

My car's a 2007, so I reckon it's going to start showing its age now.

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sean's birthday was April 9th. He's 26 years old now. Charlie gave him some money towards getting a telescope that he wanted.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Easter Sunday was April 9th. It wasn't quite as warm as I would've liked (I think it was in the mid 60s), but it wasn't bad. The dress I wore for Easter was one I bought from someone on Poshmark. A Kate Spade dress that was originally $398 (I think it's from between 2015 and 2018), but I paid $35.22 after shipping and tax.

There's a blue Tahari dress with little white dots and flowers that I really wanted (and still want), but I couldn't find it in my size. It's so beautiful. I hope I can find it eventually.

Kate Spade dress for Easter. This is Kate Spade's picture.

Tahari dress I really want. I would've worn this for Easter if I had found it in my size. Enlarge to get a better look at it. (Not my pictures, obviously. They belong to someone who was selling it in a smaller size.)

Church was really good and we had a pretty good sized crowd. I never did see or hear how many we had. We sang Name Above All  Names (Eddie James), Rattle (eh), and I think either Said and Done or So Will I. Possibly both.

Pastor preached a great message (Seeing Through Your Tears) and there was a lot of fellowship and treats for the kids after service.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
April 15th-16th, Sean, Ashley, and Alyssa (Ashley's sister) went to Southport for the weekend. Alyssa had never been. They had a really good time. I'm glad they had a safe trip.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Saturday, April 29th, the a/c in our house quit working. (Actually the unit itself. We've had cold mornings with no heat in the house.) Charlie changed some part that was showing it wasn't getting or didn't have any power, but the a/c still wouldn't work. So he called someone and they came to look at it this past Wednesday. They said they had to order a couple parts for it. We don't know how long that's going to take. Thankfully the weather has been a little on the cool side, so we've been able to keep the house mostly comfortable. (The front of the house faces south and is hard to get cool.) But it's supposed to be close to 80° today and tomorrow and into the 80s on Monday and Tuesday. It'll be much harder to cool the house on those days.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's been a difficult couple months for us - car repairs, a/c repairs, dryer needs fixing (waiting on the part), our house payment went up by almost $200 a month because county taxes went up, and a health issue we don't have answers for yet - I'll blog about that when we know something. Plus, a few other little things. But it's little things on top of these other things.
So when I post after this the clothes I've bought since my last entry, they are items purchased between early March and early April.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

And now, clothing purchases I've made since my last entry.

DKNY dress. Bought from someone on Poshmark. (This is their photo.) Originally $130, I paid less than $30 after shipping and tax.

Ann Taylor dress. Bought from someone on Poshmark. (This is their photo.) Originally $114, I paid $35.22 after shipping and tax.

Calvin Klein dress. Bought from someone on eBay. (This is their photo.) Originally $134, I paid $52.31 after shipping and tax.

Tommy Hilfiger dress. Bought from someone on eBay. Originally $129.50, I paid $32.01 after shipping and tax.

DH Birthday, Sickness, Clothes, and Music

Charlie's 54th birthday was February 21st. I made him one of his favorite meals (chili) and made him a cake - he wanted chocolate with vanilla frosting this year. His gifts from me were a dress shirt for church (Alfani brand from Macy's) and a Levi's black denim jacket with dark gray sherpa lining. My mom gave him money.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I've had one thing or another making me feel bad since the 22nd or 23rd of February. Starting around that time, I had a sinus cold with a low fever. On the 26th, AF showed up. And on the 2nd or 3rd, allergies started bothering me. For about 3 days this week, I've barely been able to talk. Whispering was a struggle. My voice came back today, but now I can't hardly breathe. *sigh* I hope I feel better soon.
Purchases since my last entry:
Eliza J. dress. Purchased from someone on eBay. (This isn't their picture or mine.) I paid $41.52 after shipping and tax. A belt didn't come with it, so I'll try to find one that's similar to the one in the picture.
Talbot's dress. Purchased from someone on Poshmark. I paid $34.11 after shipping and tax.
L.L. Bean dress. Purchased from someone on Poshmark. I paid $16.01 after shipping and tax.
Universal Thread rope belt. Purchased from someone on Poshmark. (This is their picture.) I paid $19.19 after shipping and tax. I bought it to go with the L. L. Bean dress.
